Quarto Group Catalogues

Copywriting, project management and proof-reading

Quarto are an illustrated publisher who produce fully illustrated catalogues twice a year – Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer.

The project involved creating the flatplan, writing all the copy, liaising with the designer, the in-house stakeholders and the printer, chasing visuals and ensuring all corrections had been made before final sign offs for both the Adults' and Children's catalogues.

This is Going to Hurt

As Head of Marketing at Pan Macmillan, I created the paperback campaign for Adam Kay's This is Going to Hurt, which has gone on to spend over 150 weeks in the Sunday Times Top 10.

The campaign covered everything from press ads to Amazon, outdoor to animated videos.

Rules for Perfect Murders

I provided copylines for Peter Swanson's high-concept thriller, in which an FBI agent believes that someone is re-enacting each of the 'perfect murders' - including Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders, Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train and Donna Tartt's The Secret History - described by a bookshop owner on his blog.

“In my 25 years working in marketing Alex Young is easily the most creative copywriter I have worked with. She is brilliantly flexible, and answers the brief with logically thought out options, to help guide you through her thinking. Her results always feel inspired and somehow inevitable, like the best copy does, pulling the audience in and never feeling formulaic or behind the curve. Alex makes the process fun and inspiring, helping to give shape to the rest of the campaign through excellent strategic thinking behind the decisions and options. ”

Blogs

I've written a number of blogs for the Penguin website - from everything you need to know about Jilly Cooper to literature's best - and worst - schools.
